Mobile art installation to tour Central Queensland

One of the largest mobile art installations created by local artists and the community in Central Queensland has begun.

Ignite Community Art – A multi-cultural mobile art installation is engaging artists working in glass, resin, recycle art and indigenous painting to create approximately 120 artworks through community workshops.

Envisaged by Integreat Queensland manager Julie Pettett, the aim of the art installation is to facilitate multicultural participation and regional connection through art and storytelling.

“The artists along with community workshop participants from over 20 nations who live in Central Queensland will create a series of artworks,” Ms Pettett said.

“Those artworks will then be fashioned to an architectural designed mobile art installation integrated into a steel framework and fitted to a trailer which will ultimately travel throughout Central Queensland and be available for festivals, events, and local exhibitions.”

For Integrate Queensland, the philosophy and context underpinning the community-based multi-cultural artwork initiative is the value it brings to the intercultural wellbeing of the Central Queensland community.

“Integreat Queensland is an incorporated association with the mission to open up opportunities for everyone from everywhere to get involved, feel welcome, learn new things, and contribute to a strong, thriving local community,” Ms Pettett said.

“At Integreat Queensland, we believe art and culture is intrinsic to creating a diverse community and are powerful tools to facilitate social connections, economic growth, and stronger healthy communities.

“We held the first community workshops last weekend in Biloela and Gladstone with more than 50 community members creating their piece of artwork.  Those workshops will continue with other to be held in Rockhampton, Agnes Water, Yeppoon, and Emerald.”

The Ignite Community Art – A multi-cultural mobile art installation project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Office for the Arts Festivals Australia Program.
